Supporting neurodivergent adults to make sense of their experiences and build confidence in who they are
Marlese (she/her) is a registered psychologist who works with neurodivergent adults, including people who were identified later in life and those who suspect they might be neurodivergent. Her sessions are built on collaboration, curiosity and respect for each person's lived experience. She has particular interest areas in adult ADHD, emotional regulation, burnout, executive functioning, rejection sensitivity, and life transitions. She is passionate about supporting neurodivergent adults seeking clarity, understanding and self-acceptance after years of feeling "different" or misunderstood.
Marlese takes a neuroaffirming approach in her work. Rather than aiming to make people fit a neurotypical mould, she recognises that many of the difficulties neurodivergent adults face come from living in a world that wasn't designed for them, not from personal failings. She helps clients understand how their brain works, let go of the pressure to mask, communicate their needs in their relationships, and shape their daily lives and environments around their strengths.
Marlese draws from a range of evidence-based therapies, including Cognitive Behavioural Therapy (CBT), Acceptance and Commitment Therapy (ACT), Dialectical Behaviour Therapy (DBT) and Schema Therapy. She tailors her approach to each individual, recognising that no two neurodivergent experiences are the same, and brings a warm, person-centred approach to every session.
Marlese’s professional background spans across the criminal justice system, academia, private practice and hospital inpatient settings. She has over ten years of experience as a psychologist and holds forensic practice endorsement.
Marlese provides adult ADHD assessments, which she approaches as a way of understanding how someone's brain works rather than a checklist of deficits, as well as ongoing therapy. She offers a supportive space to help clients make sense of their experiences and reconnect with their strengths. Sessions are available in person at Balnarring and online via telehealth. She sees clients under Medicare and privately funded arrangements, and works with NDIS participants who are self-managed or plan-managed. Marlese works with adults aged 18 and over.
